Role: Practice Nurse
Location: Milton Keynes
Hours: Part time – 30 hours per week (Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 8:30am – 6:30pm)
Salary: £22,000 – £30,000 DOE

An excellent opportunity has now arisen for a Practice Nurse to join our client’s successful and well-established GP surgery.

Who are we?
Our client is a friendly, well organised and supportive training practice based in Milton Keynes.

You will be joining a strong and experienced nursing team made up of 5 Practice Nurses with specialisms in areas such as diabetes and respiratory care, as well as a Nursing Associate, Healthcare Assistant and Phlebotomists. The wider team also includes PCN staff such as care coordinators and social prescribers, supported by an experienced admin and reception function.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone either with existing Practice Nurse experience or a qualified nurse looking to transition into general practice, with full support and training available.

Benefits:

  • Supportive, friendly and well-structured team environment
  • Training practice with opportunities for ongoing development
  • Exposure to a wide multidisciplinary team
  • Consistent 3-day working pattern
  • Opportunity to develop specialist areas (e.g. diabetes, respiratory)
  • Stable and well-run surgery

Duties of a Practice Nurse:

  • Delivering high-quality nursing care within a GP surgery setting
  • Assessing, triaging, diagnosing and treating patients with a range of conditions
  • Supporting chronic disease management (e.g. diabetes, asthma, COPD)
  • Carrying out cervical cytology (smears) where trained
  • Administering immunisations and vaccinations
  • Wound care management, including dressings and compression bandaging
  • Health promotion, screening and NHS health checks
  • Supporting minor illness clinics (depending on experience)
  • Maintaining accurate patient records using SystmOne
  • Working collaboratively with GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Supporting practice compliance with CQC standards and clinical governance
  • Assisting the Lead Practice Nurse and Management team with clinical audits and quality improvements

What we would like from you:

  • Must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Experience as a Practice Nurse is desirable, but not essential
  • Open to a Registered Nurse looking to train into general practice
  • Experience or interest in areas such as diabetes, respiratory care or prescribing would be advantageous
  • Competent in wound care, including compression bandaging
  • Strong IT skills (experience with SystmOne would be beneficial)
  • Excellent communication skills and a patient-focused approach
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a wider team
  • A proactive, reliable and team-oriented attitude
